Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) has once again partnered with the Ennis International Fantastic Filmfest (EIFF) as it continues its sponsorship of the event, now in its second year.

TUS remains one of the leading education providers in the region for those with ambitions of working in the ever-growing film industry.

Almost 500 students are studying film relevant programmes as diverse as Creative Broadcast and Film Production to Digital Animation and Fashion Design in TUS. Graduates continue to find employment in this growing area not just in production, sound, music and animation but also in costume and set design.

This year TUS staff and students will play a central role in the international film festival with TUS Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) lecturer Dr Tracy Fahey launching her sixth book at the festival.

The Sixmilebridge based lecturer and writer will launch “They Shut Me Up”, a novella based on a feminist reclaiming of the turbulent and colourful life of Clare woman Máire Rua O’Brien of Lemenagh Castle, with an in-conversation with filmmaker Martina Durac on Friday night October 27.

Meanwhile, LSAD Creative Broadcast and Film Production students will participate in the inaugural Ennis International Film Festival 48 Hour Challenge. As part of the challenge film crews are allocated a 48-hour period to produce a five-minute film in the ‘fantastic’ genre, shot entirely on location in Ennis.

TUS students will also attend the International Shorts screening programmes in Glór, Ennis, on Friday October 27 as part of a field trip.  The Creative Broadcast and Film Production students will also attend a special screening of ‘The Butterfly Queen’ (USA 2022) on Friday afternoon as guests of the festival.

LSAD’s independent media production Unit- Film CEL – will also produce a video report on EIFF as part of a forthcoming episode of ‘Word on The Street’ Magazine show for TUS. ‘Word on the Street’ is a magazine programme produced by Film CEL and directed and produced by Lecturer, Programme Leader and Film CEL Manager, Simon McGuire.

Ennis International Fantastic Filmfest (EIFF) launched in 2022 as the first film festival in the ‘Fantastic’ genre in Ireland, which covers horror, fantasy and sci-fi film.

FX and screenwriting workshops, film panel discussions, special feature film screening, and an ideas pitching competition also feature in this year’s programme.

Ennis International Fantastic Filmfest is organised and delivered through the support of Ennis Chamber. For further details see here: EIFF
